Uh oh, these are addictive....

Hi Everyone,

At Morrisburg Gaby mentioned that she liked to use spiral paper clips as an accent in her pieces. I decided to buy some at Staples and have been playing around the last few days with making bracelets.

I've been playing with different approaches and think I'm ready to create a tutorial. As Cindy Leitz likes to say "I learned by making mistakes so you don't have to". It'll take me a few days to put it together. The hard part is remembering the tips and tricks.

These are a huge hit at work, so much so that I'll be teaching several women how to make them. It's a great beginner project.

Thanks so much to Gaby and her wonderful class. I never would have been inspired to create these without having inspiration from her.

Cheers,

Sandy

P.S. I did post the tutorial. You can find it here.

This is a great idea I'd like to adapt. Do you glue the clay in the centre?

Wow! Those are really cool! I've never seen such a thing before. I guess I don't get out much since Dave usually runs the errands to the office supply stores for me. Wouldn't they make great fancy paper clip book marks as well?

Hi Fiona,

No glue, but some of them have got a coat of Future on them. I'll be showing some reversible samples later on. I squish the clay through the centre and mush it a bit on both sides so that the centre wire spiral is a little embedded in the clay.

OMG what a neat idea Sandy! I have never seen those spiral paperclips before. I used to make similar ones from wire, back when Martha had them in her magazine, but I've never seen them commercially made. Especially such nice sturdy ones. They look great! I can see why you're hooked on working with them!

What a clever idea! I have a tin of those paperclips I bought on a trip to the USA several years ago. I'd never thought to use them in jewellery
